Here Pat McGrew talks about the development work we did in advance of Label Expo. It’s a really nice piece, thanks so much Pat.

Bill and I have been blown away by the interest we received during, and since our trip to Label Expo in Brussels (23-27th September 2019).

We joined Screen Europe on their stand for the week and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank the whole team for making us so welcome and allowing us to showcase our short run digital inkjet pouches, in such a high-profile way.

We print our pouches on a Screen Truepress L350 LM UV digital inkjet printing press, which uses ‘migration compliant’ inks that meet all criteria for use with food packaging.

One of the main interests, other than the fantastic print results, was the fact that our pouches are surface printed and don’t need to be laminated or over varnished.

Our printing method, combined with our bespoke finishing equipment allow us to use far less plastic than the majority of other short run digital pouches.

With the huge focus currently on the amount of plastic used in packaging it was obviously seen as a great alternative.

It was a pleasure to meet so many lovely people from all over the world and we look forward to continuing to work with Screen and other partners to develop our solution further.

Given the major focus on environmental issues and, in particular, the impact of single use plastics, the FPA (Flexible Packaging Association) commissioned significant research on the sustainability benefits that flexible packaging offers.

They have identified areas where flexible pouches score well against other forms of packaging, including steel cans and other forms of plastic.  They highlight specifically, reductions in

Instead of offering a fully bespoke range of pouches, we’ve developed a standard range of sizes which will make the ordering process much simpler. In turn this will allow us to offer faster lead times and more cost-effective pricing.

We started by looking at the materials that are required to make a pouch. We went right back to source to look at how the films are blown and how wide the master reels are that come out of the machine. From this we looked at the most efficient slit widths these master reels produce and from that we have developed our standard economical range.

Due to this research we are able to assure you as a consumer that we’re creating significantly less manufacturing waste at each stage of the process. Less waste = less plastic. These efficiencies are not only better for the environment but work out more cost effective which is something we’re delighted to be able pass on.

Paper is often seen as the most environmentally-friendly form of packaging because it is easily recycled but it isn’t necessarily an ideal form of packaging:
