Paper vs Plastic

2 August 2019

Paper is often seen as the most environmentally-friendly form of packaging because it is easily recycled but it isn’t necessarily an ideal form of packaging:

•    It can increase food waste through reduced shelf life
•    Most paper used in food packaging needs a film barrier to protect the contents.  This makes recycling difficult if not impossible
•    More energy is used and more CO2 emissions are created when producing paper rather than plastic products (see www.bpf.co.uk)
